A 25-year-old farmer, Dalhatu Lawal, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
The prosecutor, Insp. Hashimu Musa, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 18, 2015 at about 11:30 a.m. in an uncompleted building. Musa said that one Nuhu Kasim, elder brother to the victim reported the matter at Dandume Police Station.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant informed the police that the accused deceived his sister and took her to an uncompleted building where he raped her.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 283 of the Penal Code.
The plea of the accused was not taken by Senior Magistrate Nafisa Bagiwa, as he was only arraigned for “ taking recognition.’’
Bagiwa ordered the police to continue investigating the matter and directed that the case file should be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice for advice. She ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till July 6, 2015.(NAN)
